Confessions
Before Usher wrote a song about cheating, getting caught and calling it a confession — there was this banger from Destiny’s Child’s essential The Writing’s on the Wall album. This one is actually a confession, because those men didn’t know any of the things they’d done. I can relate.
The day you pissed me off, I told Mike to pick me up. I told him you was buggin and I don’t like to fuss. He said he would look out for me if I needed a friend. He took me to his house and then he invited me in.
To give you some back story, this is about my most recent ex. You know, the dreamy hazy first date guy? Yeah, that only lasted so long. He slowly started to give me buyer’s remorse as I found out why his previous girlfriends only lasted 2-3 months and he was 29 years old without a long term relationship since high school.
I had just started a new job. I was dating someone I thought was a good guy. Life was good. He communicated and spent time with me. He introduced me to his friends. Then one day about a month in, he started disappearing for days a time. Not wanting to seem crazy or clingy, I let it slide. Fast forward another couple of weeks, he does it again. This continued until late September when I finally got up the nerve to mention it. But not until, I stepped out.
That’s right. I stepped out. This is not someone smudging my shoe in a club. This is someone I’m sleeping with and dating disappearing on me for days at a time. I can’t just let it slide.
My proverbial “Mike” was someone I worked closely with. He was actually as new as I was at the time. His name wasn’t Mike, he shall remain nameless. I went out for drinks with him at a bar innocently enough maybe a week or two prior to getting it in. But after my ex’s umpteenth days long disappearing act, I went over to his house.
Then we sat on the couch. He put his arms around my waist, knowin’ I need lovin’. Then he gently grabbed my face. He kissed me like a guy could never kiss a girl before. So you know what happened baby. I need to say no more.
We had sex. It was mind blowing. Maybe because it was forbidden. Maybe because I was like “Oooh, I’m dippin’ in the company ink!” It wasn’t exactly the first time I’ve ever done that. So, I don’t think banging a coworker added to the appeal. It was nice to feel wanted at a time that I didn’t feel that from the person who I was supposed to be dating.
After I betrayed him, I decided to confront him. Apparently his five day absence was because he was sick. However, he couldn’t reply to a “Hey. How are you doing babe?” text but he replied with lightening speed to “Hey. Is there someone else? Are you cheating on me?” with lightening speed. Matter of fact, he voice called.
We’ll go with, he was getting his swerve on but he didn’t know I was too this time around. Somehow we stayed together seven more months…
